Very disappointed. September 8, 2010 Yocasta I am very disappointed that pay for this product and never received. They sent me a mail saying that they made the delivery but never arrived.
Classic JLG September 6, 2010 LMMjb Excellent CD...... I would expect nothing less! If you are looking for his latest hit "Cuando Me Enamoro", it is on the newest Enrique Iglesias album. Enjoy!
Nice to hear Juan Luis Guerra still has some of that old magic. September 2, 2010 J. Fermenich (Madison, WI) After 20 years passed and many albums that didn't quite satisfy like 1990's Bachata Rosa, Juan Luis Guerra has found the magic once again.
Returning to his bachata roots that made JLG & 4.40 stars through the 90's, asondeguerra pleases the ear and gets your behind moving in your seat. While I can't pick out any songs that are destined to become classics like Burbujas De Amor or La Bilirrubina, the infectious rhythms of the album's uptunes and ballads form a cohesive listen with only a couple of exceptions.
The album starts with No Aparecen, a great song showcasing the rhythms that the listener will enjoy for the next 35 minutes. Lush harmonies and the classic call and response that have become a hallmark of Juan Luis Guerra's music fill the song.
La Guagua is infused with a laid back island feel, and Mi Benedicion is a classic JLG sing-a-long encouraging ballad. Bringing us to La Calle, a song infused with modern sounds and movement that is good, but is a bit jarring when combined with the other music on the album.
Thankfully the next song, Bachata En Fukuoka, reminds us that this is still JLG & 4.40 with a heart warming bachata to kick off the rest of the album which passes by quickly as you bop along to the music, highlights being Apaga Y Vamonos and Lola's Mambo. Unfortunately the album finishes with a bit of a misstep in Caribbean Blues, a song sung in english that just kind of falls flat. My suggestion is to just listen to Lola's Mambo one more time and skip Caribbean Blues.
Always great, original, refreshing! August 6, 2010 R. Tejada (Fairfax, VA USA) This new mix of son, salsa, bossa nova is so great and original as always!
High expectations led to a little let down July 20, 2010 Cam 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this for my Dominican husband, a big Juan Luis Guerra fan, for Father's day 2010. I'm a big Chris Botti fan and was excited to hear them partner on this CD. We were both underwhelmed. We're not sophisticated music critics, but we both had the same reaction. We felt it was kind of boring--the same thing he always does with nothing new or interesting to speak of. We only listened to it a few times as a result, and honestly forgot about it until Amazon pinged me to rate it. I'll dig it up and give it another try. Perhaps it just takes some getting used to, or is so subtle and sublime that it requires close, dedicated listening to even begin to understand and appreciate it. Thanks Amazon for reminding me that we even own this CD.
